Bridport by Night
This striking video was made by Stephen Banks, otherwise known as Dorset Scouser. Stephen came to west Dorset to join Watershed PR, the award-winning PR company based in Bridport. Stephen writes “I see far too many touristy video features about the West Dorset coastline. Too many quaint holiday cottages and clichéd shots of people eating ice cream on the beach.” This video projects a different and enchanting view of Bridport. Willow
Completed in 1988, Trilith's production Willow is an overview of the willow industry on the Somerset Levels as it was at that time. Focusing on the company "W. Gadsby and Son" based at Burrowbrige on the levels, this film shows the whole span of the company's activities, from cultivation, to basket making, wholesale and retail, import and export. Interviews with the late Stan Gadsby, Lewis Boobyer who was responsible for the cultivation and processing the willow and David Perry, basket-maker. This video was produced and directed by John and Sue Holman for Trilith.
The Market Cafe
This film appears with the permission of the maker Simon Power. Simon shares my delight in independent and idiosynchratic cafes and their denizens. As Simon writes: "Chain store restaurants and corporate eateries dominate our towns and cities. But some small independent cafes still survive...If you know where to look! Deep in the heart of Bath UK, is the centuries old Guild Hall Marketplace. Tucked away in the far corner is the Market Cafe. Jack Hayter lives in Dorset and is an aspiring young film maker. He has kindly permitted us to use his film here. I think that you will agree that Jack has a lot of talent and ability and his cast are great as well. He is planning to pursue his ambitions by going to university to study film production.

The Sadness of King George
King George III, who first put Weymouth as a resort on the map, returns to save the day when unforeseen events threaten the running of the Olympic sailing. This animation was made by children from Beechcroft Primary School in Weymouth, Dorset with National Lottery assistance through the First Light funding for young would be film makers. This project was delivered by Dorchester based Alastair Nisbet.
Moving On
Karl Edwards decided to take up a new career working with horses. He trained his horses Bonnie and Alf to work in the woods with him and also began training as a farrier. Catherine Simmonds recorded interviews with Karl and also the intricate sounds of his daily work. Catherine wrote and recorded poems that were inspired by her time with Karl. Johannes Van Weizsacker of The Chap provided original music. This montage of sound was then put together by Catherine working with John Holman at Transition Vision's base in Wincanton. This is a sample of the film owned by Roger Hardingham of Kingfisher Productions which uniquely shows the Titanic. Kingfisher Productions is based in Dorset and specialises in Railway related films and books but also a developing range of an archive film series looking at Britain 'In The Past'.
Wimborne in the Past - Trailer
This is one of a series of videos produced by the rural media charity Trilith as part of a Heritage Lottery funded project to put selected pieces of archive film back in to circulation by adding contextual material. Wimborne in the past (originally Soldiers, Civilians and Stockmen) was written, directed, shot and edited by John Holman. DVD copies of this piece are available from Kingfisher Productions
